Press Releases
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On September 10, 2006, Shawn and Amy Kibe of Tama County, IA were awoken by a visit from Ty and the gang of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” when they delivered the news that in just a remarkable seven days, they will rebuild their home which burned in a fire.
In December 2004, life was good for the Kibe family after moving from the city to the country to fulfill Shawn’s dream of being a farmer and making a better life for his family of five. With life and business on the farm flourishing, everything seemed perfect until a few days before Christmas 2005 when their house caught on fire. The Kibes returned home just in time to see firemen removing their charred Christmas presents out of the newly broken windows. The family was forced to move into a tiny one bedroom rented camper on their own property that isn’t big enough for camping, let alone living! The three boys split their time between sleeping on the couch or outside in tents. If things could not get any worse, the Kibes are about to lose their temporary home due to their insurance policy. Their only option seems to be to move back to the city and give up their farm.
This farm has not only given the Kibes a place to live; it has given them their salvation and livelihood. It’s up to Ty and the gang to restore the Kibes’ lives back on their beloved farm when they hold a barn raising of their own “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” style.
The episode “Kibe Family” will air during the 2006 season.
The location address is: The Kibe Family, 1175 F Avenue, Tama County, IA 50635
While Ty and the designers, local builder Hubbell Homes of Des Moines and hundreds of volunteers and workers are rebuilding their home, the Kibe family will go on vacation in the Caribbean.
The design team for this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will feature team leader Ty Pennington and designers Paul DiMeo, Ed Sanders, Paige Hemmis, and Preston Sharp.
The series is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It’s executive-produced by Denise Cramsey. David Goldberg is the president of Endemol USA.

Move-Out Day: Kibe Family Looks Forward To Dream Home
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SEPTEMBER 11, 2006
MOVE-OUT DAY:
KIBE FAMILY LOOKS FORWARD TO DREAM HOME
A white stretch limousine took Shawn and Amy Kibe and their three children away from their small camper and tents on a farm in Tama County for the last time yesterday.
Today, crews from the ABC-TV program Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Kibe family and friends are moving the family’s belongings into storage. The Kibes will spend this week vacationing in the Caribbean, courtesy of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. This rural Tama County household is the latest family to be featured on the program, which airs Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. Central time.
The dramatic weeklong transformation of the Kibe home began yesterday with an early morning greeting from team leader Ty Pennington. It ends Sept. 17 with the spectacular reveal of the new home as the family returns for the first time.
Hubbell Homes of Des Moines has accepted the challenge of completing this miraculous seven-day project. Hundreds of local trades people and dozens of area businesses will combine forces to keep construction work flowing smoothly around the clock for the next week.
As the move-out continues today, crews are preparing the family’s rural farmstead to handle the grueling pace of construction. Tomorrow opens the building phase when Pennington leads construction crews in an assault on the old garage and donkey barn, beginning the demolition to make room for the new structure. Foundation work begins later in the day and framing is expected to be completed sometime Wednesday.
Driving directions and daily updates on the project are available on the homebuilder’s website at www.hubbellhomes.com.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which has won back-to-back Emmy Awards as Best Reality Program (non-competitive), will enter its 4th season on ABC. Hubbell Homes Builds Dreams Every Day for Iowa Families
ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Showcases Quality and Skill of Builder
Sept. 11, 2006 – Des Moines, IA – It’s not everyday that Hollywood calls an Iowa-based custom home builder to share the news of its selection to build a dream for a Iowa family in need. But that’s exactly what happened to Hubbell Homes when Rick Tollakson, Hubbell President & CEO picked up the phone recently.
ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition first learned of Hubbell Homes through Builder 20, an elite sub-group of the National Association of Home Builders. Several members of the Builder 20 group previously worked with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. When ABC asked them what builder to seek in Iowa, the answer was simple: Hubbell Homes.
“The best compliment we’ve ever received was from our colleagues in Builder 20 who recommended us for Extreme Makeover,” says Tollakson. “We’re honored and delighted to get to work on such a worthy project.”
Hubbell Homes and its team are about to build a home for Shawn and Amy Kibe and their three sons in Tama County, Iowa. While the main challenge is building a new house in one week, Tollakson notes the experience is also giving Hubbell and its contractors the team-building opportunity of a lifetime.
“When we were approached with the possibility of working on this unique project, it was a simple answer from the beginning. This is a way for us to give back to the community, and it allows us to assist one particular family that has faced nearly a year of extreme difficulties and pull our extraordinary team together for an endurance test which we are committed to not only meet but to exceed expectations,” says Tollakson.
Hubbell Home is one of the top innovative home builders in Central Iowa. It is one of 12 divisions of Hubbell Realty Company, which began in Des Moines in 1855 and has remained a family-owned business ever since. Tollakson is responsible for the strategic operations of all business units of Hubbell Realty Company, including development, asset and property management. He also assists Chairman Jim Hubbell in establishing the company’s financial objectives, policies and goals to ensure the achievement of the company’s business plan for profit and growth.
